Our KAV series is a smart series of boring bars with a built-in, unique anti-vibration mechanism, which is designed for controlled internal turning in deep holes. The KAV solution, which also has a replaceable head, actively dampens vibrations during machining, and ensures a stable process in both roughing-to-medium cutting applications when machining at depth and up to 10×D. The solution makes it possible to machine with higher feed and thus increase productivity compared to conventional boring bars. It is thus possible to increase the speed of the machine significantly without compromising the inserts tool life or the surface quality of the workpiece.

Intelligent design of KAV

With the KAV series, you get a strong and stable solution with a built-in vibration-damping mechanism, which means that the tool is not overloaded and provides a uniform, attractive surface. At the same time, a predictable and long tool life of the insert is ensured regardless of the material being machined. For the KAV series, there are a wide range of insert types, which make the tool usable in virtually all metals, and is thus also very suitable for processing in, among other things, tough materials, such as stainless steel. Even in hard-to-machine materials, productivity can be increased while maintaining surface quality. The solution also ensures eminently good chip control - and thus a stable and reliable process despite the large overhang on the boring bar. This also means that KAV is suitable for both manual and automated production lines where high-efficiency production, stability and durability are crucial factors.

 

 

Internal cooling channels and replaceable head

All tools in the KAV series have integrated cooling channels that ensure the correct supply of coolant/lubricant directly into the cutting zone. KAV can handle coolant pressure up to 70 bar and with an increased supply of coolant/lubricant, the tool life of the insert is extended while chips are efficiently evacuated away from the workpiece. When chips are led away from the deep holes, it also results in less or no post-processing, where chips would otherwise have to be blown out of the workpiece. These factors, combined with the long tool life of the insert and the increased throughput, result in an increased bottom line.

The KAV boring bars, which are available in diameters from Ø16 – Ø40 mm - with lengths 4×D ~ 7×D and 7×D ~ 10×D - are all designed with interchangeable heads. This means that you get a very versatile and flexible solution that can be used for many different internal applications such as internal turning, facing and copying. The interchangeable head makes it possible to use a wide range of different inserts, but with one and the same KAV shaft. The heads, which are available for both positive and negative inserts, are clamped to the end of the boring bar via serrated contact surfaces, which ensure a strong, precise and stable installation.

 

 

E-Sleeve

With the smart "E-sleeve" design, it is made quick and easy to make a precise installation and adjustment of the KAV boring bar shaft in the machine's intake - every time. E-sleeve is a solution that makes it simple to center the cutting edge with the center height in the machine, in a visual and simple way. The solution is in principle a clamping sleeve with an external clamping surface, in which the boring bar is placed and centered correctly via a clear white reference line on both the E-sleeve and the boring bar. In this way, you are sure of correct and strong clamping of tools.
